Epson inkjet and laser printers communicate errors through blinking light patterns or on-screen error messages. Here is what the most common errors mean and how to fix them.
This is the most common Epson error on inkjet printers. It means the ink pad — an absorbent material inside the printer that catches waste ink — is full. The printer locks itself to prevent ink overflow damage.
Fix: Use the Epson Adjustment Program (available online for each model) to reset the waste ink counter. The physical pad may also need cleaning or replacement if it is genuinely saturated.
If your Epson shows a paper jam error but no paper is visible, a small torn piece is likely caught inside. Unplug the printer and use a flashlight to inspect all paper paths. Never pull paper forcefully — always in the direction of paper travel.
This occurs with compatible cartridges when the chip is not properly recognized. Remove the cartridge, clean the contacts with a dry cloth, and reinstall. If the error persists, the chip may need replacement or resetting.
A USB or network communication error. Try a different USB cable, different USB port, or reinstall the printer driver. For network printers, check the IP address has not changed.
Indicates a serious internal hardware failure. Try a full power cycle first. If the error persists, the printer requires professional service or may be beyond economic repair depending on age and model.
On Epson printers without displays, errors are shown as flashing patterns. Consult your specific model manual — the number and sequence of flashes corresponds to specific error codes unique to each model range.
Affected Models: Epson EcoTank series, WorkForce series, Expression series, L-series.
